Our community, showing up

Rallying around
the Scheele family

The Scheeles are dear to our church and our wider community, and right now they're carrying a heavy load. Nathan teaches the Bible at Central Valley Christian, and the family is known and loved well beyond any one congregation. This page is hosted by Visalia CRC, but it's a gathering place for our broader Christian community — churches, schools, and friends alike — to rally around them. Faith hasn't made the road easy, but it gives us strength to walk it together. However you know the Scheeles, this is where you can help carry the load: give, bring a meal, pray, or leave a word of encouragement.

Give

The benevolence fund

Every gift is received securely into the benevolence account of Visalia CRC and earmarked specifically for the Scheele family. The Visalia CRC deacons steward these funds faithfully, directing them to medical bills, travel to treatment, and whatever other needs arise through this battle with cancer. One hundred percent goes to walking with the family — no amount is too small.

Bring a meal

Stock the freezer

We're keeping a chest freezer at the church, stocked with ready-to-heat meals so the family can grab dinner on the hard days — no schedule to keep, no doorbell to answer. Freezer-friendly dishes welcome, and the family has no food allergies or sensitivities, so cook whatever you love.

Drop meals off at Visalia CRC, 1030 S. Linwood, Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, and we'll get them into the freezer.

Gift a meal delivery

Send dinner from afar

Can't cook, or live too far to drop off a meal? Gift cards let the family order what they need, on their own schedule. Buy a food-delivery card from DoorDash, Grubhub, or Uber Eats, or a Walmart gift card they can use for grocery delivery. Then get it to them one of two ways:

  1. Drop a physical card at the churchLeave it in the office marked “Scheele family.”

  2. Email an e-gift cardSend it to the church office and we'll pass it along.

Mr. Scheele, Mrs. Scheele, and your sweet family, We are praying for miraculous healing for Nathan, that the Great Physician would guide the hands and minds of the care team, and that He would grant you comforting peace that surpasses all human understanding in this time. Blessings to a beloved teacher and our favorite *almost* wedding officiant!

So very sorry to hear this news. I worked with your parents in EACS and so enjoyed hearing about their boys. I wish you Gods comfort and peace.

Nate, I'm pretty stunned here. This hits me hard. I'm hurting with you and your family. The last few days the lectionary readings I've taught through are in Romans 8. The agony of the groaning creation is so vivid to me. "Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship the redemption of our bodies." Our Christian confession gives us an amazing space to face hardship and brokenness with raw and brutal honesty while right in that space is embedded the Spirit and the hope of the redeemed body. I groan with you my brother and wait expectantly.

We are praying for you all, and hope for continued strength, comfort, courage, and peace. Much love, Greg and Jocelyn

Nathan, we are covering you and your family in prayer. “Now to him who is able to protect you from stumbling and to make you stand in the presence of his glory, without blemish and with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority before all time, now and forever. Amen.” ‭‭Jude‬ ‭1‬:‭24‬-‭25‬ ‭CSB‬‬

Mr Scheele. You have always been and will always be an outstanding role model in so many ways for our son Trent. He has always looked up to you for advice and enjoyed the process of learning with you. Thank you for being such a wonderful Godly man of an example for our son.

Nathan and family, I know we haven't met, but I have heard so much about you that you feel like I know you. I am Jacob Kitson's mother. I am praying for you continually as you face this difficult and unfamiliar journey. I will also be praying for all the medical personnel along the way that will be blessed by you and your family. As they care for you, you will care for them as they witness your faith in Jesus. Much love from one of your many prayer warriors, Jane Kitson
