On Wednesday Nathan was only able to stay at school until 9:45 in the morning. He was in horrible pain. For the next 3 hours I was moving him around about every 5-10 minutes because he couldn't get comfortable no matter what position he was put in. This pain was pretty much consistent until Thursday afternoon when the oncologist finally prescribed morphine for Nathan. When I got home from work, I felt Nathan and he was hot. We took his temperature and it was 99.3. Nathan thought the elevation of his temperature was due to being in a hot bath and using a heating pad all day (which he knows isn't great, but the only thing that would give him relief). I waited about 30 minutes and took his temperature again and it was 101.3. We called the oncologist and he sent us immediately to the ER. The reason why this is a big deal is because when a person is immunodeficient and there is a sign of infection, it's immediately assumed that the person may be septic. We headed to the ER and got moved to the front of every line for testing (because again, this could be life threatening). Nathan started the sepsis protocol with getting IV antibiotics and then they let us know that he tested positive for Covid. He got officially admitted to the hospital at around 1am. He continues to be in pain even on morphine and oxycodone. He has to have the pain meds to not be in excruciating pain, but the pain meds just drug him up and he sleeps as much as possible. His heart rate has been really high too (142 upon arrival at the hospital). They did an EKG right after getting his vitals at the hospital and had an ultrasound on his heart today, but we haven't been given any results. As of right now, there are no more test results or answers they can give us. He's admitted to the hospital until all the cultures are done and tests are read and reviewed. Please, please, please pray. He's in so much pain in his back and hip. Pray that they would get MRIs quickly to see what is going on. He can't stand. He can't sit. He can't walk for very long. It's hard to thrive when you can't do anything comfortably. Please pray for his blood numbers to come up by Monday so he can start treatment again. Pray for complete healing, if it's God's will. Jeremiah 17:7-8

  1. Praying so very deeply for Nathan and for the entire Scheele family. My heart aches knowing how much pain Nathan is experiencing and how difficult these days must be for all of you. Lord, please surround Nathan with Your presence and peace. Give his doctors wisdom and clarity as they search for answers. Please bring relief from his pain, protect him from infection and complications, and strengthen his body. We are praying for his blood counts to rise so that treatment can begin again, and above all, we are asking God for complete healing. “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water…” — Jeremiah 17:7–8 Nathan, you are not alone. You are being prayed for and carried before the throne of God. And Melissa and the entire Scheele family, we are praying for strength for each moment, for peace that only Christ can give, and for hope even in the uncertainty. Lord, please be near. Please heal. Please carry this family when they feel they cannot take another step. We trust You, even when we don't understand. ❤️🙏

Look upon him with the eyes of Thy mercy; comfort him with a sense Thy goodness; preserve him from the temptations of the enemy; and give him patience under his affliction. In Thy good time, restore him to health, and enable him to lead the residue of his life in Thy fear, and to Thy glory. And grant that when this life is ended, through faith in Thy dear Son, he may dwell with Thee in life everlasting, for the sake of the same, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
